Biography


AMAYA ESPINOZA
  • Born in Paris June 21, 1963.
  • Studies High School in Cardenal Lopez de Mendoza Institute, Burgos, Spain,1979-81.
  • Graduates with honors from High School in Upper Darby High School, Pennsylvania, 1982.
  • Awarded scholarship to the Hussian School of Art, Philadelphia, 1982.
  • Language instruction in English, Swedish and German, Uppsala University, Sweden, 1984.
  • Studies German language and literature, Escuela Nacional de Idiomas, Burgos, Spain, 1986.

ARTISTIC EXPERIENCE

  • Personal assistant to Maestro Francisco Espinoza Dueñas in Casa Museo Espinoza, Burgos, Spain, 1983-89.
  • Designed and produced exhibition brochures, invitations, flyers and postres.
  • Handled public relations, correspondence and advertising.
  • Designed gallery space and supervised installation of works.
  • Organized special events, including workshops, lectures, slide presentations, concerts, dance and theatre performances, exhibition openings and receptions.
  • Prepared grant proposals and requests for special projects and local and international workshops. Grants received from the Spanish Department of Industry, City Council of Burgos, Chamber of Commerce of Burgos, and the Spanish/North American Joint Committee for Cultural and Educational Cooperation.
  • Served as a representative of the gallery abroad, including the United States.
  • Worked on the planning and establishment of a branch of the Casa Museo Espinoza in Philadelphia.
  • Resident Artist at the Alternative School, New Jersey, USA, 1986-89.
  • Resident Artist at the Centro de Cultura Contemporanea La Cartuja de Cazalla, Seville, Spain, 1990- 97.
  • Writes and premiers theatre Works: "Fin de Siglo", 1990; "Juan Tigre", 1991; "Las Poderosas Montañas Azules", 1992; "La Casa Invisible", 1993; "El Saludo del Angel Gabriel", 1994.
  • Creates the large paintings in homage to King Don Pedro: "Las muertes del Rey Don Pedro".
  • Colaborates with Maestro Francisco Espinoza in the execution of two large mosaic murals in Arcos de la Llana, Burgos, Spain, 1994.
  • In 2002 builds her studio in El Pedroso, Seville, Spain, receiving financial support from the European Community program LEADER.
  • Since 2007 works as Artistic Coordinator for Espaço Arcana, Portuguese Henrique Leote Foundation´s cultural project. It is focused on developing and promoting contemporary art -painting, sculpture, installations, concerts and contemporary dance performances-. Handles public relations, designs gallery space, supervises installation of exhibits, production of performances, design of brochures and filming of events.
  • In 2008 starts working as artistic coordinator of Hoteles del Arte. This project involves three hotels in Spain and Portugal: Hotel Convento de Sao Paulo (Portugal), Hotel Palacio de la Serna (Ciudad Real) and Nautilus Lanzarote (Lanzarote).
  • Commissary of the exibit "El Lenguaje de la Materia", works of Maestro Francisco Espinoza Dueñas, Museo de Huelva (Huelva) y Casa de la Provincia, Seville, Spain, 2011.
  • During June and July 2014: A four week Artist's Residency in Printmaking at the Experimental Printmaking Institute at Lafayette College, Easton, PA, USA, resulting in an edition of 20 artist's books titled "The Man of the Future" and dozens of unique monoprints.
  • The artist book "The Man of the Future" participates in the exhibit "EPI - Center: A retrospective in two parts. Celebrating 20 years at the Experimental Printing Institute", Lafayette College, PA, USA, 2016.
  • Since 2020 he begins to develop his facet as an audiovisual artist creating video-art pieces such as "Los Venusianos" (2021), "Romería Marítima La Santa" (2022), "MLTPLEX" (2022) and "Catimbau" (2023).
  • In 2023 she creates, organizes and actively participates in the cultural activities of "Espacio Pedroso - Arte y Cultura", El Pedroso (Seville).
